Welcome Message

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

on behalf of the Executive Board of our Society and the Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to DĂĽsseldorf and the 59th GTH Congress. This annual event is one of the highlights of our professional activities.

We are confident that you will find the conference stimulating and enjoyable. Following preceding meetings in 1986 and 2001, it will be the third time that the North Rhine Westphalian metropolis is hosting a GTH Congress, this time organized by a team from Freiburg and Düsseldorf. The Rhine River is the unifying element between the two cities and also stands for the key issue “Platelet Pathology and Vascular Medicine” of the GTH 2015 Congress.

The ambivalence of progress – do we need a less-is-more strategy?

On this main theme, recent advances in basic and clinical research will be presented and discussed. We have had the privilege of working with a dedicated Advisory Board of 32 nationally and internationally renowned experts, who supported us in planning scientific sessions and selecting speakers. As a result of our efforts, we have arranged a comprehensive top-class scientific program, comprising 6 Plenary Sessions, 16 State-of-the-Art Symposia (invited lectures and selected abstract presentations), 3 “How-to-Treat” and 3 “Pro & Con” Sessions, 18 Oral Communications of submitted abstracts, 2 Poster Sessions (with 22 guided poster tours), 8 Educationals and Workshops, 18 Corporate Symposia, and several GTH Working Group Meetings. Overall, this year’s scientific program is reflecting the increasing international and interdisciplinary networking and cooperation of the GTH.

We trust that the array of topics will meet expectations of investigators in basic research, physician-scientists, clinicians, and health care professionals. We are very pleased that more than 340 abstracts by scientists, clinicians, and PhD or MD students from 24 countries were submitted to GTH 2015. All submissions were reviewed by 3 to 5 referees and rated on a scale from 10 (outstanding, award winning) to 1 (unacceptable, no presentation).

Special thanks

We are grateful to the members of the National and International Advisory Board, the expert speakers from home and abroad, who accepted our invitation, and to all abstract authors, who have submitted free communications. Special thanks are extended to the 130 referees, who did a very diligent job in reviewing all abstract submissions. We thank the MCI Team Berlin, our administrative staff, the sponsors and industrial partners, who altogether contributed to this conference and made this program possible. Welcome again to DĂĽsseldorf. Enjoy your time at the GTH 2015 Congress!
